An arcade game released by Namco in 1982, Xevious is a shoot ’em up that takes place in a futuristic world where players control a futuristic fighter plane battling various enemy aircraft and ground targets.
In Xevious, the gameplay is more complex than other shoot ’em up games of its time, as the player must not only destroy enemy aircraft but also avoid obstacles such as trees and buildings. As part of the game, players are also given bonus points if they destroy hidden targets called “Sola”.
In Xevious, the player fights enemies in the air as well as on the ground, and the game’s graphics reflect these different combat zones in two separate layers. This is one of the unique features of the game. In order to destroy enemies on both levels while avoiding obstacles, players must strategically use their weapons.
There was also a scrolling background in Xevious, which added depth and movement to the gameplay, as well as a memorable soundtrack.
The arcade classic Xevious has been ported to multiple home consoles for over four decades. Its innovative gameplay and memorable visuals have made it a favorite among gamers.
